In her first significant leading role on the big screen, Fergie (Stacy Ann Ferguson) of the Black Eyed Peas has been cast as one of the final puzzle pieces in Rob Marshall’s ensemble musical, “Nine” for The Weinstein Company, Access Hollywood has learned exclusively. The casting will be announced Friday. While there are several female leads in the film, including Academy Award winners Kate Hudson (announced Wednesday), Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Marion Cotillard, as well as Academy Award nominee Penelope Cruz, Fergie’s role will be significant. The musical revolves around the women in the life of the male lead character, Guido Contini, who will be played by two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis. The show is loosely based on the life of Italian director Federico Fellini, and inspired by his masterpiece, “8 ½.” “Nine” opened on Broadway in 1982 and was revived starring (amongst others) Antonio Banderas (and later, John Stamos), Mary Stuart Masterson, Jane Krakowski, Chita Rivera and Laura Benanti.Fergie has had smaller roles on the big screen in recent years, including 2007’s “Grindhouse” and 2006’s “Poseidon.” She began her acting career on the small screen on the show “Kids Incorporated.”“Nine” begins shooting in October. The woman who inspired Bluesfest to declare its 15th-anniversary edition ‘funkalicious’ appeared at the top of a staircase on the Bank of America mainstage last night, and what she was wearing wasn’t very funkalicious.Sporting a plain white pantsuit, Fergie could have passed for someone heading to their cubicle in Tower C, except for the hat and rhinestone baton. Of course, with a truly funkalicious band grooving behind her, four back-up dancers strutting their stuff, and some 25,000 screaming fans out front, there was no mistaking the Fergalicious one.Fergie is not a singer with a strikingly distinctive voice but, what she lacks in vocal ability, she makes up for by putting on a show. With the anthemic opener Here I Come, she established a party atmosphere, priming the audience for signature songs such as London Bridge, My Humps and of course, Fergalicious. It was a completely different atmosphere on the Rogers stage earlier in the evening.Say the name Boz Scaggs, and the Lido Shuffle will spring to mind, more than 30 years after it was a hit. But don’t be too quick to write Scaggs off as an aging one-hit wonder.Backed by a classy seven-piece band, the 64-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist dug into some laidback summertime blues at Bluesfest last night. In a white shirt, the soft-spoken Scaggs exuded a quiet command of the stage, a Southern gentleman of the blues who was probably right at home on the steamy evening. An easy-going version of It All Went Down the Drain set the table for an unhurried feast. Songs like the Southern-flavoured Slow Dancer, the elegant Lowdown and a tasty version of Allen Toussaint’s Hercules served as a reminder that Scaggs developed in the same circles as Steve Miller and Duane Allman, and soaked up the same range of influences. The blues-guitar highlight of the night occurred during Loan Me a Dime, which featured Scaggs’ Southern-style electric-guitar licks against the Chicago blues-style soloing of his band members. The pace got a little slicker with Georgia, treading a bit too close to middle-of-the-road casino fare, but Scaggs reclaimed ground with an inventive version of the old hit, Lido Shuffle, to the delight of a rapt audience. Her Fergalicious ways ruled a balmy Bayfest last night. Fergie, the self-made Duchess of Pop, reminiscent of Madonna for her sex appeal, free ways and determination to be a star, provided the crowd of about 14,000 at Centennial Park, with a good Wednesday night party. With four days left of a jam-packed Bayfest, Fergie (Stacy Ann Ferguson) proved a happening hip-hop/pop act to warmup the crowd for rock and country bands following this week, such as Motley Crue, the Black Crowes and Rascall Flatts. She came on stage with white jeans and a white jacket, paired with red running shoes and belt. After the third song, Clumsy, a hit from her debut album The Duchess, Fergie had removed her jacket. “It’s getting kinda hot and I just want to show you some things,” she teased and the crowd loved it. “She’s hot. She makes my (butt) move,” said Jennifer Doyle of Windsor. Fergie also made her butt move all over the place. A little more singing and a little less shaking would have been more impressive, though.

Hordes of teen and pre-teen girls cheered wildly as curvy pop star Fergie demonstrated what she did best in Sarnia on Wednesday night.”What’s up, Sarnia,” hollered The Dutchess as she shook, strutted, bumped and gyrated through a rendition of her hit single London Bridge. The energetic outdoor show was one of six concerts taking place in Sarnia Harbour this week for the city’s annual summer music series, the Rogers Bayfest.Festival organizers estimated attendance for Fergie in the thousands.Concertgoers were treated to generous dollops of Stacy Ann Ferguson’s charisma when the 33-year-old hip-hop diva made her arrival on stage in a regal white pant suit, waving a golden cane as a scepter. The show drew adoring fans such as 14-year-old friends Caleigh Welten, Kylee Brennan and Julie Bolton, who each wore tank tops with hand-painted letters spelling the name of their idol.”She’s, like, fun to listen to,” gushed Kylee, who lives in Brights Grove near Sarnia.Caleigh added: “She’s hip. She’s not like a bunch of old country singers” — referring to the headlining country music acts scheduled for this weekend.
