The Black Eyed Peas songstress Fergie talks about her girl-on-girl action and her most embarrassing moment

WHEN it comes to the Black Eyed Peas, it’s hard to see past the queen of the pod, Stacy ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, not least because of her attitude when it comes to being a celebrity.

Far from the droves of self-obsessed A-listers, 34-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is refreshingly honest when it comes to maintaining her glamorous look every day.

When she jetted into the UK to perform with her band on The X Factor recently, most stars would have thrown a diva strop when their shoes went missing. But not Fergie, who commandeered Cheryl Cole’s pair, before telling the entire audience: ‘She is a size smaller than me so they’re a bit of a squeeze!’

Newlywed Fergie married actor Josh Duhamel, 37, in Malibu in January and says her husband couldn’t get enough of the newly acquired curves she sported after gaining 17lb for her latest role in the musical, Nine.

‘When I came home from filming he was excited – he enjoys having both: the extra meat to grab when it’s there and the tight stomach when that’s there, he’s never been critical,’ she says.

Here, back together with the band for their fourth album, Fergie talks about her lovenest, battling the bulge and bisexuality…

You seem very happily married…
Oh yeah. We’re a really chilled couple. He’s up in Canada right now, so he’s working hard too. We had a great wedding and a great honeymoon with some hubby and wifey time, but now it’s back to work.

You look in fantastic shape – what’s your secret?
Well, first of all thank you. But I have always been a kind of up-and-down, fluctuating weight kind of girl. Because of that I can always tell if I am a little bit softer or I’ve gained a few pounds. Other times when I’ve had time to work out or I’m just more mentally motivated, you can see that too.

Are you working out in the gym every day at the moment?
Yes, right now I’m working every day with a personal trainer so I’m feeling really in shape and motivated. Because of the new tour I’m trying to get my stamina back up. I had to gain weight for my role in the musical Nine. I gained about 17lb when it came down to it so now I’m back to my pre-Nine shape.

It seems to be the trend in Hollywood for female stars to explore their lesbian side. Have you?
I’ll put it this way, I’ve experimented definitely but I have never had a steady girlfriend. In our video for I Got A Feeling I have a little girl-on-girl tease section of the video!

How do you cast someone to do the girl-on-girl scene with?
One of them was the director’s girlfriend [laughs]. I just met the girls right before we did the scene. They were beautiful, though. They were hot.

What’s been your most embarrassing moment on stage?

I think everyone has seen the pictures on the Internet when I didn’t use the bathroom before I went on stage [Fergie was spotted with an unfortunate wet patch]. We were doing Let’s Get It Started and jumping all over…. Yeah, I should have used the toilet before I went on stage. That was the most embarrassing moment of my life!

A guy who took you to a school prom once has been arrested for armed robbery…
Oh my God, yes, I did see that on the Internet and my friends from high school called up and said: ‘He was holding up a bank in a grocery store.’ I felt bad for him, I knew him for years.

Talking of school, is it true you were a spelling champion?
Yeah, I always got good grades at school. Both my parents were teachers. Now I’m always spelling words wrong on purpose!

How is it being back with the band?
We’re having a blast. We took time out doing our individual solo projects and now we’re having a lot of fun together. We keep coming up with new and bigger ideas and everything is just so new and fresh. It’s not like we’re doing the same old stuff. It’s very exciting.

Your latest album has a different sound from what we’re used to…
Yeah it definitely has. This record is a club record. We’re just having so much fun because we are all back together. I did my solo stuff. Will did all of Obama’s campaign. Then I got married. All we wanted to do when we saw each other was have a good time, so that’s what a lot of the songs are about.

And you’ve gone brunette…
I love it. It was a full-on commitment to change from blonde to brunette. I have a new album, I’m a newlywed – it’s a new chapter in my life.
