The Black Eyed Peas had a hit song last year with The Time (The Dirty Bit), which sampled Dirty Dancing classic (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life. And will.I.am has revealed that the song and the album it featured on, The Beginning, was borne through their love of club music.

“The link is that Apl.de.ap and I, we started to DJ and play in lots of clubs while we were touring with the last record,” he said during an appearance on a French TV show. “We have so many beats we use for our DJ sets and there are a lot we used for the new record. For instance, the song The Time of My Life was initially made for an after party, in Ibiza. We used the sample of the Dirty Dancing song to rock the club, and we turned it into a song.”

The group were so inspired by their new material they recorded the album in a short space of time.

“We were making new beats every day that we would play in clubs. We made the new record while on tour and it only took us a month and a half,” will.I.am explained. [Source]
