The Black Eyed Peas’ smash hit “I Gotta Feeling” is now the top-selling digital song in history, passing Flo Rida’s “Low” to become the bestselling track since Nielsen SoundScan began counting digital sales in 2003, Billboard.biz reports. “I Gotta Feeling,” which is currently Number 37 on the iTunes singles sales chart more than 10 months after its release, has totaled 5,561,000 downloads, edging out the total sales for “Low” at 5,536,000. The track’s next big hurdle will be to surpass the six-million-download mark.

The sales milestone offers more proof that the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am has perfected the science of global pop domination, which Rolling Stone‘s explored in our recent 40 Reasons to Be Excited About Music issue. “Lots of people say, ‘Black Eyed Peas shit is simple,’ and I’ll be like, ‘No, fool, it’s the most complex shit you even could fathom, that’s the reason it works everywhere around the planet,’ Will.i.am told RS. “Boom Boom Pow,” the first single off the Black Eyed Peas’ electro album The E.N.D., also ranks in the Top Five of the most (legally) downloaded tracks ever, selling 5,298,000 copies since its premiere in March 2010 to place Number Four on the top-selling list. Like “I Gotta Feeling,” “Boom Boom Pow” still has a presence on the iTunes Top 100 singles chart, settling in at Number 85 more than a year after its release. A pair of Lady Gaga tracks, “Just Dance” at Number Three and “Poker Face” at Number Five, round out the all-time digital Top Five. [Source]
