The Black Eyed Peas just set a new Billboard record as “I Gotta Feeling” stays at No. 1 for the eighth week in a row, following 12 weeks atop the charts for “Boom Boom Pow.” Both these tunes are being talked about in our forums as potential Grammy Awards contenders.

The Black Eyed Peas broke Usher’s winning streak of 19 weeks atop the Hot 100 for “Yeah!” and then “Burn” in 2004. When asked by Billboard about this achievement, will.i.am said, “With this kind of success your ego wants to take all the credit but your heart reminds your soul that it was your heart that had you slaving and creating in the studio making the music; breaking through comfort zones and tradition. In the fight between heart and ego my heart always wins.” And Fergie added, “It’s an amazing feeling to know that these songs have connected with so many people who have kept them alive for so long.”

Both of these chart-topping tracks are off the hip-hop group’s fifth studio album, “The E.N.D.,” which sits at No. 3 on the sales chart this week. The disc debuted to good reviews 10 weeks ago and already made it to the top of the Billboard 200. The album’s acronym stands for “The Energy Never Dies,” and the Black Eyed Peas have proved unstoppable as of late.

The Black Eyed Peas have won three Grammy Awards out of 10 nominations. Twice in a row they earned the Grammy Award for best rap performance by a duo or group for “Let’s Get It Started” (2005) and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” (2006). And in 2007 they won best pop performance for a duo or group for “My Humps.”

But they lost their two bids for the prestigious record of the year prize. In 2004, “Where Is the Love” – their collaboration with Justin Timberlake – was bested by Coldplay‘s “Clocks.” And in 2005, “Let’s Get It Started” was edged out by the Ray Charles and Norah Jones duet “Here We Go Again.” Could this be their year? Stay tuned. [Source]
